Tax Pro On The Go

Financial Template: Nonprofit

Are you trying to wrap up the 2019 fiscal year?

Has anyone asked for a Profit and Loss, P&L, or Statement of Financial Activity?

Are you completely confused at this point and not sure what is needed or what they are requesting?

I understand the struggle. Many small nonprofit organizations do not have accounting software and keep financial records in Excel, their checkbook register, a Word document, or by some other method.  While I do not advocate that type of record keeping, I do understand that a very small organization with few transactions may not be financially able to justify purchasing accounting software.

Therefore, I have created a template for you to download and customize to help format your organization’s financials into an easy to read form.

This first template I will share is called a Profit and Loss, or Statement of Financial Activity, template.  This is where you will total all the activity for the year by category.  For instance, all the “General Donations” that were received from January 1, 2019 through December 31, 2019, will go on line 6, column D for General Contributions.

Several of the line items may not be applicable to your organization.  Please feel free to customize this template (see link below) for your organization’s actual revenue and expenses.
